Mather currently serves as a senior astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center and as an adjunct professor of physics at the University of Maryland. He held the role of senior project scientist for the James Webb Space Telescope until 2023 and is widely acknowledged as a key figure in space exploration.
