Jarmila Kratochvílová is a Czechoslovak former track and field athlete celebrated for her outstanding performances in the 400 meters and 800 meters events. In 1983, she made history by winning both events at the World Championships and setting a world record in the 400 meters. Her world record in the 800 meters, also set in 1983, remains unbroken and is the longest-standing unshared individual world record in athletics. Kratochvílová’s exceptional accomplishments continue to be highly respected in the track and field community.
