James Fisk Jr., also known as “Big Jim”, “Diamond Jim”, and “Jubilee Jim”, was a prominent American stockbroker and corporate executive during the Gilded Age. He gained notoriety as a “robber baron” due to his involvement in the Erie Railroad and his infamous role in Black Friday in 1869, where he and partner Jay Gould tried to corner the gold market using President Ulysses S. Grant’s name. Despite his popularity among the working class, Fisk’s questionable business practices eventually led to his assassination in New York City in 1872.
