Ivonne Higuero(Panamanian Environmentalist and Diplomat)

Ivonne Higuero is a Panamanian environmental economist with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Masters’ degree in Environmental Management. She has 24 years of experience in various UN positions focusing on environmental economics. In 2018, she became the Secretary General of CITES, making her the first woman to lead the convention. Higuero has led the CITES Secretariat during important conferences, such as CoP18 in Geneva in 2019 and CoP19 in Panama City in 2022. She emphasizes the importance of preventing illegal wildlife trade for habitat conservation and public health.
