As the commander-in-chief of the Combined Fleet, he led important battles, including the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Battle of Midway. Yamamoto was known for his strategic planning and leadership skills, but his military career met a tragic end when his aircraft was shot down by the United States Army Air Forces in 1943.
