Ismail Mahomed SCOB SC was a prominent South African Memon lawyer and jurist who made significant contributions to the legal field during apartheid and post-Apartheid eras. He was known for his expertise in civil rights and administrative law, becoming the first black advocate to take silk in South Africa. Mahomed served as a judge of appeal in Swaziland and Lesotho before becoming the first black judge of the Supreme Court of South Africa. He later became the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of South Africa, playing a key role in the country’s transition to democracy.
