He held various political positions, including Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador of India to the Soviet Union, and Minister of External Affairs. Gujral is renowned for formulating the Gujral Doctrine during his time as Minister of External Affairs. He withdrew from all political roles in 1998 and passed away in 2012 at the age of 92.
