Huáng Yǒng Pīng was a renowned Chinese-French contemporary artist known for his avant-garde approach to art. Viewing art as strategy, he drew inspiration from influential artists such as Joseph Beuys, John Cage, and Marcel Duchamp. In 1986, Huang established Xiamen Dada and made a name for himself with his controversial and provocative artworks within the 1980s Chinese art scene. He notably took part in the exhibition Magiciens de la terre in Paris in 1989 before relocating to France, where he resided until his passing in 2019. His impactful large-scale pieces were not typically suited for auctions, and he was represented by galleries in New York, Paris, and Beijing.
