Honoré Daumier was a versatile French artist known for his satirical social and political commentary in newspapers. Through caricatures and cartoons, he critiqued the monarchy, politicians, judiciary, and bourgeoisie, blurring the lines between caricature and fine art. Although his serious paintings were initially overlooked, they were admired by artists such as Baudelaire. Daumier’s work influenced impressionist and post-impressionist painters, and he created over 100 sculptures, 500 paintings, 1000 drawings, and numerous engravings and lithographs. Despite facing financial difficulties, he gained recognition later in life.
