Harry Chapin was an accomplished American singer-songwriter, philanthropist, and hunger activist recognized for his folk rock and pop rock music. He achieved global fame in the 1970s with 11 albums and all 14 singles reaching hit status on national music charts. Chapin’s most famous songs include “Taxi” and “Cat’s in the Cradle.” As a Grammy Award-winning artist and Hall of Fame inductee, he devoted himself to humanitarian causes, particularly advocating to end world hunger and aiding in the establishment of the Presidential Commission on World Hunger. In 1987, he was posthumously honored with the Congressional Gold Medal.
