Gray Davis is an American attorney and former politician who served as the 37th governor of California from 1999 until his recall in 2003. As a member of the Democratic Party, Davis held various political positions, including chief of staff to Governor Jerry Brown, California State Assemblyman, California State Controller, and lieutenant governor of California. During his tenure as governor, Davis focused on education, environmental issues, and improving relations with Mexico. He was recalled in 2003 and succeeded by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Davis later worked as a lecturer and attorney.
