Granville Sharp was a British civil servant known for his contributions to the abolitionist movement. He played a key role in the landmark ruling of Somerset v Stewart, which declared slavery illegal under English law. Alongside Thomas Clarkson, he co-founded the Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade and was influential in the passing of the Slave Trade Act 1807. Sharp also supported the establishment of a free colony in Sierra Leone and championed various social and political causes.
