Gordon Bunshaft was an influential American architect known for his modern design approach during the mid-twentieth century. He was a partner at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) for over 40 years. Some of his notable works include Lever House in New York, the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the National Commercial Bank in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Bunshaft’s innovative designs, such as the transparent bank on the East Coast, left a lasting impact on the architectural world.
