Giovanni di Paolo(Painter)

Birthdate: 1403 AD
Birthplace: Siena, Italy
Died: 1482 AD
Giovanni di Paolo di Grazia was an Italian painter known for his prolific work in Siena during the 15th century. He was a renowned painter and illustrator of manuscripts, with a notable focus on Dante’s texts. Initially influenced by earlier Sienese masters, Giovanni developed a unique style characterized by cold colors and elongated forms. His work also reflected influences from International Gothic artists like Gentile da Fabriano. Giovanni’s paintings often featured dreamlike atmospheres, such as the surrealistic Miracle of St. Nicholas of Tolentino. His reputation declined posthumously but was later revived in the 20th century.
