George Herbert Sheldon, an American diver and eye doctor from St. Louis, MO, studied at the Barnes Medical College. Despite facing health challenges due to a weak heart, he achieved success in diving. Sheldon won a gold medal in platform diving at the 1904 Olympics and also clinched the National AAU diving championships in 1905. Unfortunately, his diving career was cut short by his heart problems. In 1989, Sheldon was posthumously honored by the International Swimming Hall of Fame for his pioneering contributions to diving.
