Fulton J. Sheen, an American Catholic bishop, was known for his impactful preaching on television and radio. Ordained a priest in 1919, he later became a distinguished theologian and was honored with the Cardinal Mercier Prize for International Philosophy in 1923. Sheen shared his knowledge as a teacher of theology and philosophy at the Catholic University of America. As an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of New York, he gained fame for hosting popular radio and television shows, earning two Emmy Awards. Sheen is recognized as one of the pioneering televangelists. His cause for canonization began in 2002, and he was declared venerable by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012.
