Franz Stangl served as an Austrian police officer and SS commander during the Nazi regime. He played a significant role in the T-4 Euthanasia Program and later became the commandant of the Nazi extermination camps Sobibor and Treblinka. Following World War II, Stangl evaded capture for 16 years in Brazil, where he worked for Volkswagen do Brasil. However, he was eventually arrested, extradited to West Germany, and tried for his involvement in the mass murder of one million people. Stangl was convicted in 1970 and sentenced to life in prison, passing away six months later.
