Eugene Cernan was a distinguished American astronaut, naval aviator, electrical engineer, and fighter pilot. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering and joined the U.S. Navy through NROTC. Cernan served as a fighter pilot, earning his naval aviator wings and later obtaining a Master of Science in aeronautical engineering. He reached the rank of captain before retiring from the Navy. Cernan flew into space three times, participating in two lunar missions, ultimately becoming the most recent person to walk on the Moon.
