Emiliano Zapata Salazar was a Mexican revolutionary who emerged as a prominent leader during the Mexican Revolution of 1910–1920. Leading the people’s revolution in Morelos, he sparked the agrarian movement known as Zapatismo. Zapata organized the Liberation Army of the South and played a pivotal role in overthrowing the dictator Porfirio Díaz. He championed the Plan de Ayala, which called for land reforms to benefit peasants. Despite encountering resistance, Zapata persisted in his pursuit of social justice until his assassination in 1919.
