Elizabeth Garrett Anderson was a trailblazing English physician and suffragist. She was the first woman to qualify in Britain as a physician and surgeon. Anderson co-founded and served as the dean of the London School of Medicine for Women, the first medical school in Britain to train female doctors. She achieved several other significant firsts, including being the first female dean of a British medical school, the first woman elected to a school board, and the first female mayor in Britain.
