Eliyahu Ben-Shaul Cohen, an Egyptian-born Israeli spy, gained fame for his espionage work in Syria from 1961 to 1965. He developed close relationships with Syrian political and military figures, providing valuable intelligence to Mossad. Concerned for his safety, he shared his worries with Mossad in 1964 as his activities became increasingly risky. Uncovered by Syrian intelligence in 1965, he was convicted and publicly hanged in Damascus, escalating tensions between Israel and Syria before the 1967 Arab–Israeli War. Cohen is honored in Israel, with streets named after him.
