Edward Uhl was a United States Army Ordnance Corps officer credited with developing the M1 portable rocket launcher, commonly known as the bazooka. He enlisted in the US Army in 1941 and was later commissioned into the Ordnance Corps. Uhl achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel and continued his career in the defense industry after his military service. He worked on guided missile projects at both the Glenn L. Martin Company and Martin Marietta. Uhl eventually served as vice president of engineering at Martin Marietta and later became president of the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Company before retiring in 1985.
