Doreen Viola Hansen Wilber, an archer from Rutland, Iowa, gained recognition for her exceptional achievements in the sport. She won the gold medal in the women’s section of the first modern Olympic archery competition at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. Wilber also set a new world record with outstanding scores and secured a 2nd place in the 1969 and 1971 Outdoor World Championships. In 2011, her contributions to archery were honored with a bronze statue in Jefferson.
