Dionysius of Halicarnassus, a Greek historian and rhetoric teacher in the time of Emperor Augustus, was renowned for his imitation of Classical Attic Greek in his writing style. His main work, Rhōmaikē Archaiologia (Roman Antiquities), provided a detailed account of Roman history up to the First Punic War. Though only nine out of twenty books remain, his emphasis on promoting paideia in education through a profound knowledge of classical sources significantly influenced the Greek elite’s identity for many years.
