Francis Richard “Dick” Scobee was an accomplished American pilot, engineer, and astronaut who held a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. He served as a combat aviator in the Vietnam War before being selected for the NASA Astronaut Corps in 1978. Scobee piloted the Challenger mission STS-41-C in 1984 after extensive training. Tragically, he lost his life while commanding the Space Shuttle Challenger during the STS-51-L mission in 1986 due to a booster failure. His dedication to space exploration and contributions to NASA’s missions remain a significant part of his professional legacy.
