Richard Douglas Fosbury, known as Dick Fosbury, was an American high jumper who transformed the sport with his innovative “back-first” technique, the Fosbury flop. His approach led him to win a gold medal at the 1968 Olympics and influenced high jump competitions worldwide. Even after retiring from athletics, Fosbury continued to contribute to the sports community by serving on the executive board of the World Olympians Association. He later ventured into politics, successfully running for the Idaho House of Representatives in 2014 and eventually becoming a Blaine County Commissioner in 2018.
