David Kato Kisule, a Ugandan teacher, was a prominent LGBT rights activist who helped lead Uganda’s gay rights movement. He served as the advocacy officer for Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) and was highly respected for his dedication to fighting for LGBTQ+ rights in the country. Tragically, Kato was assassinated at his home in 2011 after a legal victory against a threatening magazine.
