David Easton was a well-known political scientist who made significant contributions to the field. He was a professor of political science at the University of Chicago for fifty years. Easton was instrumental in the behavioralist and post-behavioralist movements in political science. He is most recognized for defining politics as the authoritative allocation of values and for his application of systems theory in political science research. His five-fold scheme for studying policy-making processes has been widely adopted by policy analysts. Easton also held the position of president of the American Political Science Association.
