David Dinkins was a notable American politician, lawyer, and author. He made history by becoming the first African American to serve as the 106th mayor of New York City from 1990 to 1993. Before his mayoral role, Dinkins was a member of the New York State Assembly and Manhattan borough president. He also had a distinguished military career as one of the Montford Point Marines. Following his mayoral term, Dinkins remained active in municipal politics and academia at Columbia University.
