Darya Nikolayevna Saltykova, a Russian noblewoman, was notorious for her sadistic tendencies and brutal treatment of her serfs in Moscow. She gained infamy for torturing and killing many of her serfs, primarily women. Saltykova’s actions have been compared to those of Elizabeth Báthory, the Hungarian “Blood Countess,” who was also accused of similar crimes against servants and serfs. Despite debates among historians about the accuracy of these charges, Saltykova’s ruthless behavior and serial killings have tarnished her professional reputation.
