Chioma Ajunwa-Opara, MON, OLY is a retired Nigerian athlete who made history by being the first Nigerian to win Olympic gold at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. Additionally, she became the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event. Ajunwa is a former football player and a member of the Nigerian Police Force. She is also known for being the only woman to compete at both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the Olympics. In December 2017, she established the Chioma Ajunwa-Okpara Foundation to identify and support new sports talents in Nigeria. Ajunwa has been actively involved in promoting athletics through various initiatives and sponsorships.
