Charles Hatchett, an English mineralogist and analytical chemist, is renowned for discovering the element niobium, which he originally named “columbium.” He was honored as a Fellow of the Linnaean Society in 1795 and of the Royal Society in 1797. Hatchett was an active member of the Literary Club in London and served as its treasurer from 1829 onwards. His significant contributions to the fields of chemistry and mineralogy established him as a leading figure in the scientific community of his era.
