Carter Glass was a prominent American newspaper publisher and Democratic politician from Virginia. He was instrumental in shaping the U.S. financial regulatory system by contributing to the establishment of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Banking and Currency, Glass collaborated with President Wilson to successfully pass the Federal Reserve Act. Later in his career, Glass went on to serve as Secretary of the Treasury and a U.S. Senator, advocating for states’ rights and opposing the New Deal.
