Carlo Buonaparte was a Corsican attorney who briefly served as a personal assistant to revolutionary leader Pasquale Paoli. He fought with Corsican forces against the Genoese republic and later the French invasion. Buonaparte became Corsica’s representative to the court of Louis XVI. His second surviving son, Napoleon, later became Emperor of the French. Several of Buonaparte’s children received royal titles from Napoleon and married into royalty.
