Chakravarti Rajagopalachari, also known as Rajaji or C.R., was an Indian statesman, writer, lawyer, and independence activist. He held various prominent positions in Indian politics, including serving as the last Governor-General of India, leader of the Indian National Congress, Premier of the Madras Presidency, Governor of West Bengal, Minister for Home Affairs of the Indian Union, and Chief Minister of Madras state. Rajagopalachari was the founder of the Swatantra Party and was honored with India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna. Throughout his career, he advocated for world peace, disarmament, and Dalit upliftment, and was a key figure in the temperance and temple entry movements.
