Conjeevaram Natarajan Annadurai, popularly known as Anna, was an Indian politician and writer. He served as the Chief Minister of Madras State and Tamil Nadu, being the first member of a Dravidian party to hold either post. Known for his oratorical skills, he used Tamil cinema for political propaganda. He founded the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam party and implemented progressive policies during his brief tenure, such as legalizing Self-Respect marriages and renaming Madras State to Tamil Nadu. His untimely death was mourned by many, and his legacy continues through various institutions and organizations named after him.
