Bob Beamon is widely recognized for his remarkable track and field career. His most renowned accomplishment occurred at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, where he set a world record in the long jump by leaping 8.90 m (29 ft 2+1⁄4 in). This incredible jump surpassed the existing record by a considerable margin. Beamon’s record stood unbroken for nearly 23 years until it was exceeded by Mike Powell in 1991. To this day, Beamon’s jump remains the Olympic record and is the second-longest in history without wind assistance.
