Barry Horne was an English animal rights activist known for his extreme methods to advocate against animal testing. He gained global attention for a 68-day hunger strike to push for a public inquiry into the issue. During his activism, he received the longest sentence ever given to an animal rights activist in the UK for planting incendiary devices. Despite facing health consequences, including kidney damage and failing eyesight, Horne continued his hunger strikes until his death from liver failure. He is considered a martyr by the radical faction of the animal rights movement.
