Bal Keshav Thackeray, an Indian politician, established the Shiv Sena, a right-wing pro-Marathi and Hindu nationalist party in Maharashtra. Through strategic alliances, he transformed the Shiv Sena into a powerful political entity in Mumbai, also founding the Marathi newspaper Saamana. Despite facing legal challenges, Thackeray retained significant political influence until his passing.
