Arthur Henry Rostron, a British merchant seaman and seagoing officer for the Cunard Line, was renowned for his role as the captain of RMS Carpathia during the 1912 rescue of survivors from the sinking RMS Titanic. His swift response and effective rescue operations garnered widespread praise, leading to him receiving a Congressional Gold Medal from the United States Congress and being named a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Rostron later served as Commodore of the Cunard fleet until his retirement in 1931.
