Art Shell is a former professional football player and coach known for his career as an offensive tackle in the AFL and NFL with the Oakland / Los Angeles Raiders. He played college football at Maryland State College and was drafted by the Raiders in 1968. Making history as the second African American head coach in professional football, Shell went on to coach the Raiders twice. He has been honored with inductions into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to the sport.
