Anton Mauve, a Dutch realist painter, was a prominent figure in the Hague School art movement. He was known for his skillful use of color and signed his works with ‘A. Mauve’ or a monogrammed ‘A.M.’. Mauve had a significant influence on Vincent van Gogh. His paintings often depicted peasants working in the fields and flocks of sheep. Mauve’s sheep paintings gained popularity in the United States, with scenes of “sheep coming” and “sheep going” being distinctly priced.
