Alexei Nikolaevich, Tsarevich of Russia, was the last heir apparent to the Russian Empire. He was born with haemophilia, and his parents turned to the peasant faith healer Grigori Rasputin for medical help. Following the February Revolution, the Romanov family was exiled to Tobolsk, Siberia. Eventually, during the Russian Civil War, the Soviet government ordered their execution. Alexei’s remains were found in 2007, and the Russian Orthodox Church canonized the Romanov family in 2000. He is occasionally known as Alexei II among Russian legitimists.
