Canonized in 1931, he earned the titles Doctor universalis and Doctor expertus during his lifetime, with his intellectual abilities leading to him being known as Magnus. Regarded as one of the greatest medieval philosophers and thinkers, he is considered the greatest German philosopher and theologian of the Middle Ages. The Catholic Church recognizes him as one of the esteemed Doctors of the Church.
