Heidi Heitkamp is a well-known American lawyer and politician who served as a United States senator from North Dakota from 2013 to 2019. Before her time in the Senate, she held roles as the North Dakota attorney general and tax commissioner. Heitkamp was the first woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate from North Dakota. After her Senate term, she became a CNBC contributor and a visiting fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics. Currently, she is the director of the University of Chicago Institute of Politics.
