Peter Martins is a Danish former ballet dancer and choreographer. He was a principal dancer with the Royal Danish Ballet and the New York City Ballet. Martins joined George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, and John Taras as balletmaster in 1981. After retiring from dancing in 1983, he became Co-Ballet Master-In-Chief with Robbins. From 1990 to January 2018, Martins held the position of artistic director at City Ballet, overseeing the company’s artistic direction and contributing to its success in the world of ballet.
