Honored by esteemed institutions like the Royal Geographical Society, he set more than one hundred records in various sports, receiving prestigious awards such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Aero Club and being inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Sadly, Fossett disappeared during a flight over the Great Basin Desert in 2007, and his crashed plane was found the next year.
