Charles Warren Fairbanks, an American politician, represented Indiana as a senator and served as the 26th vice president of the United States. He was the Republican vice presidential candidate in the 1916 election. Fairbanks, an attorney and railroad financier associated with Jay Gould, gave the keynote speech at the 1896 Republican National Convention. He advised President William McKinley and helped resolve the Alaska boundary conflict. During his vice presidency, he opposed Theodore Roosevelt’s progressive initiatives.
