Ernie Irvan, known as Swervin’ Irvan, is a retired American professional stock car racing driver famous for his incredible comeback following a severe head injury in 1994. Despite facing a slim 10% chance of survival, he defied the odds and returned to racing. Throughout his NASCAR career, Irvan enjoyed success and was honored as one of NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers in 1998. Despite battling various injuries later on, he persevered and continued racing until his retirement in 1999.
