Bonnett gained prominence in the late 1970s while driving for Jim Stacy and Wood Brothers Racing, establishing himself as a strong contender in the 1980s. He also ventured into the entertainment industry, appearing in movies like Stroker Ace and Days of Thunder, hosting the TV program Winners on TNN, and serving as a color commentator for various networks. Tragically, his career was cut short by a severe brain injury in 1990.
